What's on for Primary Schools

This is a chance for you to meet our Audience Development and Participation Officer, go on a tour of the venue, and find out more about how we can work with you to enhance your students’ learning, as well as providing access to cultural opportunities. There will be tea, coffee, and cake, as well as a chance to play with our lighting desk!

A one-hour tour led by our Engagement team, showcasing the history of Darlington Hippodrome with a chance to go on stage, and look behind the scenes. Cost: £50 per class.

If you would like an additional workshop or more time in the building for a particular project, this can be discussed on a bespoke basis.
Workplace Experience Tours
We offer bespoke tours for groups, focused on careers in an arts venue. Depending on availability, this can include a chance to use a lighting desk, talk to members of staff in different job roles, and find out about job opportunities. Cost: £50 per class.
The application process for work experience at the Hippodrome is now open, and can be accessed on our work experience page. Please share this link with any of your students who would be interested in working in the cultural sector or in technical theatre.
If your school is planning to attain Artsmark status, Darlington Hippodrome (as an Artsmark Partner) can help you on your journey by offering cultural opportunities for students, CPD for staff, and introductions to other cultural organisations.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, don't miss the fairest pantomime of them all!
Much-loved pop and musical theatre star Gareth Gates is set to headline the family Christmas spectacular SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS. Joining the line-up is Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan from ITV’s The Chase, who will be playing the Wicked Queen, alongside hilarious comic and panto aficionado Josh Benson, who joins the cast as the loveable Muddles, Marina Lawrence-Mahrra as Snow White, and Jamie Jones as Mrs Nelly Nightnurse.
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS will be spectacularly brought to life with an abundance of comedy, sensational song and dance numbers, fabulous costumes and stunning scenery. Throw in a magical mirror, the magnificent seven and plenty of audience participation and you have the perfect recipe to outwit the Wicked Queen and let love prevail in this glittering festive treat for all ages.

Dear Zoo - the timeless children’s classic book returns to the stage!
See our characters write to the Zoo. Who will be delivered? A cheeky monkey, a jumpy frog and of course a perfect puppy.
Help your children learn as the book leaps onto the stage and share a magical experience as the story unfolds with child-engaging puppets, music and lots of audience interaction.
