Lizzie Lovejoy presents CIRCE'S ISLAND, a powerful spoken word performance celebrating the voices of women and AFAB people. This unique event features the works of 10 poets who have spent the past four months honing their craft in workshops at Darlington Library, as well as three commissioned poets from the North East. Inspired by the ancient Greek witch and nymph Circe, Circe's Island evokes the mythical sanctuary Circe created—a safe haven for female nymphs. Much like Circe’s island, this performance project serves as a space for connection, community, and the sharing of stories shaped by female lived experiences. Through poetry, we celebrate sisterhood, resilience, and the thriving ecosystems we build together. Circe’s Island is more than just a performance; it’s a testament to the strength of community bonds and the transformative power of shared narratives. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the culmination of four months of creativity and collaboration. Let Circe’s island remind you of the sanctuary that art can provide—a place where voices flourish and community grows. We look forward to welcoming you to this celebration of storytelling, sisterhood, and shared experience.
