Then we’ll hear his first symphony, written when he was just 8 years old in 1764, and his last, completed sixteen years later in 1788. Nicknamed the ‘Jupiter’, it’s bursting with vitality, wit, and contrapuntal mastery. Hearing both together unlocks a new understanding of one of history’s most celebrated musicians. Grażyna Bacewicz was a remarkable Polish composer and violinist, who defied all expectations of women in her time. During World War II she even gave secret underground concerts in Warsaw to continue premiering her work. Her Sinfonietta lets the string section of the orchestra shine, using different techniques and textures to great effect.
